Colorado River Floating Duck & Goose Hunt           Back to Auction Items

This will be a 3 day guided hunt with Jeff Wallis of Widgnwhackers Lanyards. Jeff is also an Avery Pro-Staffer and spends many hours hunting waterfowl on the Mighty Colorado River outside of Yuma, Arizona. You will be hunting with Jeff on various backwaters and lakes off of the Colorado River. The primary duck that will you will be hunting for will be the American Widgeon, although Jeff has harvested a few Eurasian Widgeon in the past few seasons, so you may have a chance at one of these trophy ducks as well.

During your 3 day hunt it will consist of you being picked up at your motel and transported to our hunting area with Jeff and his trusty Black Lab Wyatt. You will be hunting from Jeff’s 14’ Lowe with a pop-up blind and a spread of Avery GHG Decoys. You will be provided lunch and drinks each day. You will be required to purchase your Arizona state Non-Resident hunting license and Arizona Duck stamp. You will be required to provide your own transportation to Yuma, Arizona and pay for lodging as well. You will also need to bring your own shotgun, waders, blind bag etc. Steel shot-shells may be purchased locally when you arrive.

You may also harvest many other species of ducks on this hunt to include Divers and other Puddle Ducks. During this hunt you may also see Desert Bighorn Sheep and Mule Deer that are living around the shoreline and rugged cliffs near the rivers edge. Occasionally you may even see a Bobcat or Mountain Lion while visiting this area of the Desert Southwest. There is a rich history of mining on the shores of the Colorado as well and you will also see signs of miners and their quest for gold. I’m sure your trip and hunt will be one of a lifetime, and one you will not soon forget.

Take a moment and read about lastyear's HDC hunt with Jeff and his new found friend Rock Schumacher.

About your Host:

Jeff Wallis 48 resides in Yuma, Arizona along the shores of the Mighty Colorado River, with his wife Alma and daughters Dana and Blanche. After spending 8 years in the United States Marine Corps, as a Crash Fire Rescue Technician, I was hired on by the Department of Defense as a Firefighter/EMT/HMT and have continued to work in this field for the last 18 years. I also own and operate my own business, Widgnwhackers Custom Lanyards www.widgnwhackers.com; I was introduced to Waterfowling in 1995 and quickly became obsessed with it! I hunt waterfowl about 50+ days a year during our 100+ day season. I also enjoy Archery and Rifle Big Game Hunting for Antelope, Deer, Elk, Javelina and hopefully someday Desert Bighorn Sheep. I also enjoy Long Range Tuna Fishing off the coast of Baja California, Mexico every summer. I am a Donor/Member of California Waterfowl Association Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. I enjoy raising money for Delta Waterfowl’s, Adopt-a-Pothole Program and have helped purchase 3 Pothole Complexes in Manitoba Canada in the last 3 years, with the help of members of the Arizona Forum at the Duck Hunters Refuge. I am also a donor to many CWA events throughout the state of California and have received numerous certificates of appreciation from them. Another passion that I have taken to heart is Training and Running my Black Lab (Wyatt) in AKC Hunt Tests! In November of 2004 (Wyatt) earned his AKC JR Hunter Title! I was a field tester of the Avery Wigeon decoys and wrote a story, about hunting on the Colorado River here in Arizona, which was hosted on the Avery website. As a member of the Avery Pro Staff, I feel that I can bring in some ideas for current and future production of decoys and other waterfowling equipment, as well as providing my knowledge and skills in outdoor photography. I will also be able to promote the use of Avery products through field testing and getting the word out by writing articles, shooting video hunts and using my web based knowledge to work as the Avery Pro-Staff News Editor. I look forward to retirement from the Fire Service in 2.5 years and hope to continue my work with Avery after my retirement, as well as becoming a fulltime Hunting and Fishing Bum!
