What are the plans for 2010?

Next year's benefit will help support the "Team Connor" organization. The auctions will again start the first week in September, 2010 and run for about a week on eBay.

About Team Conner

Their Mission Statement, "Through effective and efficient use of resources, TeamConnor will raise awareness, support families, fund treatments, and help find a cure for childhood cancer."

Cancer is the number one disease killer of children and kills more children per year than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, asthma and AIDS combined, yet the budget of the National Cancer Institute allocates only 3% of its funds to pediatric cancer research.

There are 15 cases of pediatric cancer diagnosed for every single case of pediatric AIDS and yet the U.S. spends $595,000 for research per victim of pediatric AIDS, yet only $20,000 per victim of pediatric cancer.

The largest children’s oncology group in North America, which supports the clinical and biological research at over 200 participating institutions and treats 90% of children with cancer, received less than half of its requested budget from the federal government this year.

What is Hunting Down Cancer?

Hunting Down Cancer (HDC) is a fund raising organization that organizes a benefit each year to help raise money for the fight against cancer. Each year starting on the last Sunday in August we auction off hunting and fishing trips across the county that go to raise money for a Cancer program.
With the HDC Benefits all of the money that you pledged in winning the auction will go directly to the charity we are raising money for.  We are able to do this because of money raised by personal donations and or other auctions items tagged specifically to raise money to cover the operating costs of listings on eBay, advertising and website hosting.

We are not a non-profit organization
, we help raise money for them.
We work with the nonprofit charity and run the auction process for them.  They receive all of the money generated from the auctions and we cover all of the eBay fees and expenses.  At this point in our organization history, it is not worth the cost involved to become a nonprofit organization when we can use that money to help the charity.

Over our first two years of benefits we raised a little over $26,000 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation .  This year's HDC Benefit started on August 30th and we raised $11,040 for the cancer program
Reel RecoveryIt is a cancer outreach program centered around the activity of fly fishing to help people affected by cancer deal with their fight.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at Hunting Down Cancer.

If you'd like to contact the the organizations that we have raised money for please contact Chris Brewer at the Lance Armstrong Foundation and Stan Golub at Reel Recovery.  They have both been extraordinarily helpful in the operation of our benefits.

By Popular Demand HDC Sweatshirts

There are associated cost (eBay fees, advertising, website, etc.) that do occur and those cost are covered though other fundraisers, donations and other items we have up for auction.  There has a great demand for the hooded sweatshirts that have been seen on past hunting reports.  This year we will be offering these hoodies.  All of the proceeds we raise with the sale of these items will go directly to help cover the operating cost associated in running this benefit.  The sweatshirts are $45, plus $10 shipping.  Please contact us if you'd like one.

Justin Tackett and Shannon Nardi on the WaterdogTV.com website auctioned off a hunt with the Waterdog Crew earlier this spring that was won by Steve Burdsal and his pup.  It raised $2000.00 for Reel Recovery.  Click Here
Travis Reininger and Chris Guccione of T&G Outdoors have put together a video of one of last seasons HDC hunts that is off their new DVD "Migration Madness"
